CPR2016 Recap

Camp Promise-Rockies, 2016

Camp Promise-Rockies, 2016

A week ago we said farewell (until next summer) to our Camp Promise-Rockies campers and volunteers. Everyone went home with new lifelong memories and smiles plastered to their faces. Check out some photos of our week here.

Our camp family grew a lot this summer as we nearly doubled in size, extended camp by one day, and packed our four days together with non-stop activities and fun. Easter Seals Rocky Mountain Village was our home away from home for 23 campers (8 of whom had never been to Camp Promise before!), and 29 volunteers who served as counselors, program staff, photographer and nurse. We were even lucky to have 10 returning volunteers who had so much fun in past years that they decided to come back for more wacky fun this summer!

There were many activities to choose from at this session of Camp Promise-Rockies, ranging from arts & crafts and fishing, to hiking, rock climbing and zip lining. All activities are available to every camper regardless of their ability, and we can adapt anything to allow our campers to try new and exciting activities without having to worry about their ability to participate.

Our campers didn’t let anything get in the way of having fun and many campers tried adventurous activities like zip lining for the first time. You know all about our camp tradition of collecting firsts, and this session was no different. Our Firsts poster was hung in the dining hall so campers and volunteers could share their new experiences with each other. Most of our firsts were silly, like when counselor Mo reported she kissed a fish for the first time, or when nurse Georgette said she wore a flamingo hat for the first time. But, many firsts were also meaningful, like the following shared by our campers:

  • First time having a sleepover
  • First time ever swimming at camp
  • First time going to a dance
  • First time going ziplining
  • First time asking someone to be my date to prom

We all had an unforgettable week at Camp Promise-Rockies this summer and we want to take this opportunity to thank the campers, volunteers, staff and camp facility for making this incredible week possible. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
