Camp Promise Gives Back: Food Drive

At Camp Promise-West this summer, we're giving back! Camp is made possible due of the generosity of our donors, volunteers, vendors, guest performers, funders, and more. Without them, we wouldn’t have campers zipping around on adaptive bikes, making masterpieces in arts and crafts (and auctioning them off for $300!), or getting kisses by squiggly, newborn piglets. Camp Promise is what it is because of all the kindness we receive from our local communities.

In an effort to recognize and say thank you for this generosity, we will be rolling out a new program called Camp Promise Gives Back.

The purpose of this new program is to model the generosity of which we have been so lucky to be the recipient, and to pay it forward.

For our inaugural Camp Promise Gives Back, we have chosen to host a food drive at Camp Promise-West to support others in need. We will be collecting cans of food and non-perishable food items all week long. All items will be donated to a local nonprofit, the Rainier Valley Food Bank, which is the busiest food bank in the Seattle area. 

We encourage all campers, staff, and visitors to participate and are excited for the opportunity to come together to see the difference we can make as an entire community!
 

How It Works:

We will be collecting non-perishable food items at Camp Promise-West. There will be a donation bin at staff Orientation, camper check-in, and at camper-pick up. We will collect these items and deliver them to Rainier Valley Food Bank at the end of camp. 

How You Can Help:

We invite all campers, staff, volunteers, and visitors to bring a can of food or a non-perishable food item to camp. The next time you head out to the grocery store, pick up something for the food drive.

What to Donate:

All foods collected should be non-perishable. Here are some good ideas:

  • Canned chicken, tuna and salmon
  • Beef stew, meat soups
  • Hearty soups
  • Canned vegetables and fruits
  • Dry or canned beans (kidney, pinto, green, yellow, refried or black beans)
  • Peanut butter
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Pancake or baking mixes
  • Cereal and oatmeal
  • Granola bars or energy bars
  • Ensure or other nutritional supplement drinks
  • Baby food and formula
