Camp promise-east volunteers
WELCOME! With camp right around the corner, we hope you are as excited as we are. This page has everything you need to get ready for and succeed at camp this summer. From our Staff Handbook of policies to this year's theme days and dances, we've got you covered. We have a lot of fun activities planned (pranks included), and we want to make sure you have all of the information you need to be prepared for camp this summer. Below you will find:
- Staff Handbook
- NEDS Waiver
- Orientation Details
- Driving Directions
- Volunteer Dismissal
- Theme Days & Dressing Up
- Packing List
- Carpooling to Camp
- Staff Medications
Please be sure to read the Staff Handbook before you get to camp. It contains a lot of important and helpful information, including camp rules and policies, tips and tricks for interacting with campers, and information about specific neuromuscular diseases and their impact on recreation. We will cover some of this at orientation, but ALL Camp Promise staff are responsible for the contents of this book, so please familiarize yourself with it before coming to camp.
For folks who are returning to Camp Promise-East, you will remember our friends from New England Disability Sports (a chapter of Disability Sports USA) who joined us last year for adaptive cycling and archery. We are pleased to announce they will be joining us again! If you would like to participate, please fill out and sign the NEDS waiver and email it to email@example.com.
Orientation is mandatory for ALL volunteers (new and returning) and will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at camp:
Channel 3 Kids Camp
73 Times Farm Road
Andover, CT 06232
Orientation times are as follows - if you are unclear what group you are in, please reach out to Shannon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- UL/ULAs - 9:00 a.m.
- New Volunteers (did not attend in 2017) - 10:00 a.m.
- Returning volunteers - 12:30 p.m.
Please be prompt!
Orientation will take place in the Rec Hall (click here for a camp map). Meals and snacks will be provided, and everyone will sleep at camp that evening, so make sure to bring to Orientation everything you will need for the week of camp. Please be prompt!
Cell service can be poor in the area, so it's a good idea to print directions in advance. Click here for driving directions.
Volunteers are required to stay until dismissal at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 7, 2018, pending a clean camp. Please keep this in mind when making your transportation arrangements.
Theme Days & dressing up
We encourage everyone to dress up in costume for our theme days, special events, and themed dance, so dig through those closets, hit up the thrift store, or get crafty. Click here for the 2018 themes!
And, for more information on what costumes and theme days look like at Camp Promise, click here for our Guide to Costumes.
Our packing list is a general list of items each person will need at camp. You may need additional items, so please plan accordingly. You should have also received your cabin color via email, so don't forget to pack wacky clothes & accessories (eg: wigs, hats, socks, shoes, costumes, etc.) in your cabin color so you can show off your cabin spirit on Cabin Color Day.
Carpooling To Camp
Still looking for a way to get to camp? Have space in your car to offer a ride to others? While Camp Promise does not provide transportation to and from camp, we're happy to connect those who need rides with those who are driving and have extra seats in their car. We use a website called Group Carpool to help connect drivers and riders. This may be particularly helpful for those who will be using public transportation to get to camp, such as a plane, train, or bus. Click here for more information about carpooling to camp.
And, check out our Group Carpool website to find or offer a ride to camp: https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/3ownek
As you are preparing for camp, please remember that all medications must be labeled, identifiable, and brought to camp in their original packing. Original bottles and labels are required for ALL medications, including supplements, vitamins, over-the-counter medications, prescription medications, etc. All medications must be stored at the nurses cabin for the week, but staff will be able to self-administer their meds while at camp.
We look forward to welcoming you to CPE2018 on July 1, 2018. In the meantime, don't hesitate to contact us with any questions!
